Aclar films have excellent moisture barrier properties. If your drug also requires oxygen barrier or other barriers such as light, films such as EVOH or colored PVC may be used in the laminate structure to provide additional barrier properties.
DMF-1578 has been established for Aclar films. Please contact us if you need a letter of authorization for the DMF.
Aclar laminates utilize a thermoforming platform which has shown to be a more efficient packaging platform vs. Alu/Alu (CFF). Scrap rates are lower; changeover times decrease and machine uptime increases allowing you to achieve higher OEE.
Hundreds of drugs have passed stability in Aclar and are successfully packaged and distributed in Aclar today. While Honeywell can’t guarantee that your specific drug will pass stability, we can support you in optimizing your package and tooling design, assist with stability trials, perform weight gain studies, and provide other services that will ensure you have the highest likelihood of passing stability in an Aclar laminate.
Honeywell sells Aclar Films to an authorized list of converter partners. Please visit our Laminate Supplier Network page to find an authorized converter partner to serve you.
Excellent chemical resistance is one of Aclar’s main advantages. There is no absorption or loss of flavors and no degradation by chemical attack. Please contact us for more details.
The thermoforming properties of the Aclar laminate are essentially defined by the substrate material to which it is laminated. However, Honeywell does offer recommended guidelines to follow to produce high quality blisters. Please click here Thermoforming Guide to download our “Aclar Films Thermoforming Guideline”.
Aclar laminates do not require special tooling; however by following a set of best practices, you can maximize the performance of the Aclar laminates you are considering. Please click here Tooling Guide to download our “Tooling Design Best Practices for Aclar Films”.
Aclar’s high chemical resistance, inertness and moisture barrier properties make it well suited for any application requiring these physical properties. To date, some of the most popular applications for Aclar films include push through packaging for originator, generics, nutraceuticals, animal health and over the counter drugs, etc. as well as pouches, sachets, and medical devices.
There are many factors that contribute to curl including but not limited to the temper of the foil lid stock, the pattern of the cavities on the card, the percent seal area versus formed area, the forming and sealing conditions, the seal knurl pattern, the residual heat in the card post sealing, and other factors. If you are experiencing issues with curl in your blisters, please contact us for assistance
Each drug and drug formulation has distinct requirements for barrier protection. Honeywell’s technical team has over forty years of experience in guiding the pharmaceutical industry with appropriate material selection. Please contact us for assistance in choosing the right Aclar grade for your application.
Under normal processing conditions, there are no additional precautions required to ensure a safe working environment when thermoforming Aclar laminates. For those operations that expose the laminate to higher temperatures (up to 290º C), Honeywell recommends the use of local exhaust ventilation at the point of fume generation. Please reference the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for additional information.
